About the event

Embark on a journey through the formative years of a jazz giant. This tour explores the High Point landmarks that shaped John Coltrane, centering on his childhood home at 118 Underhill Street. From his infancy until 1943, Coltrane was immersed in the vibrant Washington Street community, developing his musical foundation in the bands of William Penn High School.

Visit the Greenhill Cemetery to pay respects at the Blair family plot, where his grandfather—the influential Reverend William W. Blair—is interred. From the original floorboards of his home to the towering commemorative mural by Brian Lewis, experience the close-knit community that nurtured a legend before he took his sound to the world."
